What Is Cards Against Machinery?

CAM is a card-matching game similar to Apples to Apples, or Cards Against Humanity.

However, unlike those games, which produce their cards using obsolete, unhygienic human labor, CAM's cards are produced entirely with the latest in state of the art generative neural networks*.

The results are bizarre, surreal, and often hilarious. And, because the cards are generated by machine, the game can have a lot of them.

Specifically, CAM has more than 100,000 prompt cards, and more than 1,000,000 response cards. This largely solves the problem with physical card matching games, which is that eventually you're sick to death of most of the cards. CAM is a fresh (and very strange) experience every time you play it.

*Specifically, a version of Open-AI's GPT-2 fine-tuned on a hand-edited assortment of several thousand funny cards. You can learn more about GPT-2 here.

Is This Game Safe For Work?

Not remotely. This game is very, very offensive. Neural networks do not understand social taboos.

Mostly the cards are gross but harmless, which is the general energy I was shooting for. However, some of the model's original training data comes from Reddit. As a result, it's occasionally mean-spirited and kinda racist, so be prepared for that.

Is This Game In Early Access?

The game may get new features and improvements, but it's in a stable, playable state. It supports 7-player, cloud-hosted online multiplayer, so you don't have to mess with your firewall or ports to play it. It should pretty much just work.

Can I Use These Cards For My Own Nefarious Purposes?

Yes you can!

The card lists (which you can find in the "Resources" folder) are Creative-Commons licensed, and can be freely used by anyone for anything.

Go nuts.

Today my friend ran the game and his computer started running hot.

that's the only time it's given me trouble though. Great game. Cool that the rooms still work,

Hi! Absolutely astounding creation!!!!. I can't wait to play this with my friends, and online rooms built right in WOW. Unfortunately I have encountered a small difficulty, can you help me out? I have a 1280x1024 monitor, and it's not showing the edges of the screen!(the edges have the buttons on them), and there's no way to resize or fullscreen it. It seems to me the game sets the window to the monitor size on startup? Sorry to trouble you with such a mundane problem not exactly training an AI, LOL.

Hey VolatileDawn, thanks for the kind words! The window rendering stuff is a little janky right now, and I didn't test it at many resolutions. However, if you hold down the control key while the app launches, it should give you a menu that lets you change some settings. Play with that, and see if that fixes your problem. If not, I'll figure out a fix and cut a new build in the next few days.

Thank you for your swift response! I tried what you said and not only do the other settings work, it disables the original problem entirely even with the default! in fact I can no longer recreate the problem, the default resolution is no longer stretching to the sides of the screen and nothing is cut off. So... it worked thanks! It also works in fullscreen but there's not exactly a way to quit the program besides alt+f4 XD
